Harpsichord after Andreas Ruckers 1637
The Ruckers/Couchet dynasty in Antwerp supplied the whole of Europe with their instruments for a century, so famous and esteemed were they. This instrument here shows the typical standard disposition of their single-manual harpsichords with an eight-foot and a four-foot as well as split buff stop made of elk leather. The classical decoration was as follows: Marbling on the outside, an oil painting in the lid, block printed wallpaper pasted in the keyboard space and around the soundboard.
