Octave-virginal on a 16th century Neapolitan model
In the sixteenth century we find a Neapolitan virginal type of its own: everything is made of maple wood, the corners are dovetailed, the walls overhang the bottom board, the keyboard runs in two grooves of the case braces, the keyboard cheeks are carved, the tuning pins sit on the left. For protection, the instrument sits in a separate outer case.
